Recess partnered with Nike Diamond and Likelihood to infuse baseball with renewed zeal by leveraging MLB All-Star Weekend '23 and the legacy of Ken Griffey Jr. Otherwise known as "The Kid," Ken Griffey Jr. emerged on the 90s baseball scene as a symbol of youth and modernity, reshaping baseball’s identity with a blend of talent and charisma that injected a fresh perspective into the sport. Recess echoed that history to partner with Nike and Likelihood, bringing The Kid back for a community-centered journey of experiences across downtown Seattle.

To commemorate the highly-anticipated Courtyard Classic’s 4th Year Anniversary, Recess partnered with Nike to highlight basketball icons through a community-centered celebration during Art Basel. We collaborated with the Nike team and its partner, UNKNWN, to design and produce a high-energy friends & family basketball tournament celebrating Signature Athletes who have helped shape the game and their products.

UNKNWN x Art Basel '23

To celebrate the rich history of hip-hop and basketball’s impact on intergenerational community culture, Recess partnered with Nike to create the Fresh AF1 Tour, a multi-stop series of community events. We worked alongside Nike & partnering stores in Chicago, NYC, New Orleans, D.C, and Atlanta to bridge the gap between Gen-Z and Nike’s Air Force 1 basketball history.

Recess told the AF1 story across several platforms, cities and experiences, both online and IRL, to truly encompass the story of the AF1. We leaned on our expertise as experience thought leaders to weave digital and physical moments together, creating one, cohesive celebration of culture.We aimed to resonate with older audiences, who lived through the hype of early 00s hip-hop, and younger audiences, who are still learning the significance of the Air Force 1.

Fresh AF1 Tour

Recess partnered with boutique retailer Bodega to create a campaign film to support the release of their NBA collection with Mitchel & Ness. The collection was made up of LA Lakers and Boston Celtics official jerseys, accompanying apparel and accessories. Drawing inspiration from the longstanding rivalry between the two franchises, Recess crafted a narrative around the rivalry between super fans from dueling cities. The film and supporting content recognized the differences between two super fans, while acknowledging that when they come together they discover they have more in common than you may think.

Recess brought the Union Dunk story to life from beginning to end. From naming the product to developing a narrative inspired by UNION's history and owner Chris Gibbs' global travels. The campaign was shot across LA, NYC and Tokyo. We also saw pieces of each city come to life in a pop-up shop designed and built by Recess where the product was first made available during New York Fashion Week. The pop-up also featured a 1:1 recreation of the OG Union storefront in Soho.

To celebrate the unique collaboration between Jordan Brand and Nina Chanel, Recess captured an editorial campaign that showcased the featured protagonists and highlighted their individuality and self expression. We developed an end-to-end creative direction to show the intersection of basketball culture, fine arts and equity for women.
